Barcode Dimension Template
Before doing a large print run of barcode labels or packaging please ensure that you have verified that your barcodes can be read by the barcode systems in the stores that will be stocking your product(s). Present day barcode scanners are very efficient and can generally read almost any barcode even if they have been printed poorly, although mistakes do still happen. The following guidelines will help ensure that your barcodes are printed correctly and minimise any potential problems.
When you receive a barcode package from us, you'll see that the barcode images contained therein are created at the perfect size to suit modern bar code readers. Generally, printing barcode labels from these images at 100% magnification is your safest option. In terms of designing product packaging containing a barcode image, please ensure that the empty space on either side of the barcode is big enough for the barcode scanner to be able to scan the barcode (This is called the "Quiet Zone"). If you decide to use the services of a professional barcode printing company such as Barcodes Africa, you don't need to worry as you can be assured they will print and test your barcodes correctly.
Lastly, it is not a good idea to print a barcode at less than 80% magnification as the error rates increase dramatically at this point. You should print your barcodes images at a quality of at least 300dpi. We also recommend that you don't go lower than 100% magnification if you aren't using thermal printing.

You can calculate “Total barcode width” adding up “Left Quiet Zone”, “Right Quiet Zone” and “Bar Width”together.
